Students will look at how fractions can be viewed from two perspectives of the pieces we have or shaded fraction as well as the missing pieces or unshaded fraction . Outcome: N4.6 - Demonstrate an understanding of fractions less than or equal to one by using concrete and pictorial representations:
(d) Name and record the shaded and non-shaded (included and not included) parts of a whole.

*Suggestion: Use this math starter activity "Same but different" and have students discuss in pairs or small groups their ideas of how the fractions are the same and how they are different. Then have a few students share with the whole class. If virtually or as an in person option have students use this Jamboard to share their answers. Assign each group a page and have students type their answers on the sticky notes.
